About Us » History
Tarrant Area Community of Churches has a rich history of making a transformational impact in
Tarrant County. In the early 1950s, ministers from three churches in Fort Worth saw a need for
an organization that would bring Christians from all denominations together to serve
Jesus Christ in Fort Worth, Texas. They created what was called the Fort Worth Council of Churches
in 1953, with a focus on racial justice. In the 1980s, the FWCC changed its name to reflect the
county-wide focus of its ministry, and the Fort Worth Council of Churches became Tarrant Area Community
of Churches (TACC). Its members included — and still include — Protestant and Catholic congregations
from Arlington, Northeast Tarrant County and Fort Worth, working together to minister to the whole of
Tarrant County.
Throughout the decades, TACC has gathered the Christian community in service, worship and prayer.
TACC has brought together children and their families to celebrate National Children’s Sabbath. In times
of tragedy, such as 9-11, the congregations of TACC have pulled the whole community together to be a
source of strength and solace. In times of celebration, such as Fort Worth’s Sesquicentennial, TACC
has gathered the community to give thanks and praise for all ways God’s transformative Spirit has
shaped the life of this city.
